Do you have something to say and something to play?
If you do, community radio will unlock your unique media voice and presence and give you the opportunity to broadcast your views to the world about news, current affairs, music, arts, crafts, sports, religion, politics, pets, or one or more of thousands of other interests and ideas.
If you are interested please call 2NVR’s training and programming coordinator, Ion Newcombe, on 0408 696 184, or shoot an email message to <ion@2nvr.org.au>.
Radio presenting really is for everybody — and we’ll introduce you to all aspects of broadcasting at our studios in Tewinga using a presenter handbook that covers all of the necessary theoretical and practical aspects.
Don’t forget — there are no silly questions, only silly answers.
We hold introductory training sessions weekends two or three times a year. After an introductory weekend, you will have the opportunity to learn much more about the practical aspects of radio when you become a “learner driver”, and get behind the microphone with an on-air mentor.
Course Dates: Weekend March 14 and 15, 2026
Time: 9am till 3 pm (approx)
Saturday March 14
Covering: introduction to community radio broadcasting in general, ranging from important technical aspects about being on-microphone and on-air, through to the specifics of broadcasting at 2NVR, such as show construction, audience considerations, dos and don’ts, the legalities of broadcasting, rules imposed on us by the Australian Media & Communications Authority, and more.
Sunday March 15
Covering: any leftover legals & theory. Practical studio sessions on a panel (not on-air), plus interview & recording techniques and tips, preparing your radio show and other practical issues and questions..
Other Details:
Location: 2NVR Studios, 834 Rodeo Drive, Tewinga, 2449
Course Cost: 2NVR Membership (you must be a full member).
If you are not already a member, you can join on Saturday morning. The annual individual cost is $20. Family membership (2 adults and multiple children) is $50 per annum. Please note that we don’t accept personal cheques.
For the course, you will receive the 2NVR Presenter’s Handbook, various other course notes, and guided training sessions with reference to those notes at our studios in Tewinga.
Don’t panic. Radio broadcasting is easy, and you will have the opportunity to have plenty of hands-on experience before you “fly solo”.
Questions are always welcome. In fact, there are no silly questions, but the status of some answers may be dubious!
After the initial introductory day/weekend you will receive a minimum of ten-twenty hours (or more, if necessary) of mentored on-air training sessions.
All participants are required to bring their own:
• Pens / Pencils
• Notebook / Paper
• Lunch / snacks
We have a jug/urn onsite for hot beverages and basic tea/coffee, and you may use the onsite fridge to store your food or cold drink.
Community radio gives you the opportunity to have a media voice and presence, and to introduce others to your views about news, music, arts, crafts, sports, religion, pets, or any of potentially thousands of other interests and ideas.
